I am so sorry. I am sorry to every parent that I though was overreacting about their children who were teething.
When we were expecting Madison, we were always hesitant to fully enjoy the pregnancy because of our history. I never got the chance to FULLY prepare myself for the day that I would have two babies at once. To be honest I spent more time preparing for the loss of one, whether is be a disrupted adoption placement or a pregnancy loss.
Soooo…when I finally had both babies in my arms, I was a little unprepared…well A LOT unprepared.
My boys are seven months a part so naturally when one finishes a milestone the other one starts. However, teething is a series of unfortunate events that seem to last a life time and it doesn’t feel like there is an end in sight.
Teething Symptoms
(In other words, every thing is going to hell and your pediatrician needs to blame your child’s symptoms and behavior on something)
Teething brings sooooo many things besides teeth. You will be tired of hearing every time you take your little one to the pediatrician that the reason why they are acting sick, uncomfortable or out of sorts isn’t because they are sick but because “that’s teething”. Symptoms may include
- drooling
- whining
- not sleeping
- not eating
- drainage
- coughing
- gagging
- irritable
- diarrhea but also maybe constipation (it’s a surprise every time!)
- runny nose
- pulling at their ears
- crying
- putting fingers in their mouth
- chewing on every thing
- biting
- screaming
I think that about covers it!!! Scary isn’t it!!!
Below are some tips that are keeping us sane over here with two teething babies!
FREEZING EVERYTHING!
We freeze wet wash rags, teethers, pacifiers, toys, nipples of bottles, sippy cups! Basically whatever is safe to freeze and suck on!
Frozen Wash Rags
If your little one is anything like my two boys, they love to suck on wash rags, at first I thought it was a little concerning but after talking with my pediatritian (that’s right, I am an overthinking momma), I was assured that it was soothing to their gums and teeth. Makes sense! So then I got the idea to freeze damp washrags and they were a HIT! We like Bamboo Organics Best 100% Viscone from Bamboo Baby Washcloths Soft Baby Wipes because they are super soft and small enough for little hands. Just damp and freeze!
Frozen Pacis
Depending on the type of pacifier your little one takes, there might be an opening at the end to fill it with water. We have two little ones who prefer using two different types, both are great for freezing. Just put some water in the ends and freeze! Take them out once frozen for a even more soothing binky! We use Dr. Brown’s HappyPaci 100% Silicone Pacifier, 0m+, Blue, 3 Count and Philips Avent Soothie Pacifier, Blue, 0-3 Months, 2 Count
Frozen Popsicles
These neat pacifier like food dispensers are not only great for introducing new foods to your baby but are great for making frozen treats! We pour yogurt and baby food in ours (make sure the lid is on when pouring) and kids can hold them themselves so that they are in control.
Another great way to make popsicles, is using these trays! We use formula, milk, Pediasure, yogurt and baby food!
Frozen Teething Toys
These toys are easy to throw in the freezer and are also easy to clean! They can also be attached to a pacifier clip for easy accessibility!
OUR FAVORITE TEETHING TOYS
Teething Bibs
We go through about 6 of these a day between both boys teething. They are super cute (they look like cowboys!!! Oh my heart) and they have a fun teething toy attached to them!
Teething Tablets
We started using these tablets after a friend recommended them. They are natural soothing tablets for teething babies and seem to do the trick for our little ones. They even helped with our youngest son’s colic! Hyland’s Baby Nighttime Oral Pain Relief Tablets with Chamomilla, Soothing Natural Relief of Oral Discomfort, Irritability, and Swelling 125 Count
Again, I apologize to all the parents out there dealing with a teething baby. I had NO IDEA!
