I still amazes me at how much stuff came along with having children.
It starts with diapers and wipes, then clothes and then toys and sooner than later you’re surrounded by kids stuff everywhere!
If you have a small and quaint home like myself, utilizing space is crucial. You have to be creative in creating storage and places to hide things!!!
We use the walls (hanging baskets), we use doors (hanging organizers), we only have furniture with a purpose (baskets for storage).
One thing that I have started doing in my children’s room/playroom is creating play areas using walls and doors.
Chalkboard Door
Following the instructions on the chalk paint, I created a “creative corner” in an area that would normally not be utilized. I painted the back of the door using chalk paint and adhered a mirror and activity table top to the wall (using heavy duty Command Strips) to make an activity wall and art panel.
You can use walls, sides of cabinets, shelves or doors to create a fun drawing and writing area. Both kids love using this area to color, look at themselves in the mirror and play with the activity wall!
This is a an activity cube that I took apart and then attached to the wall to create a fine motor station or calm down spot. They unfortunately no longer offer this model (I have had it for 7 years!) but these are great alternatives to create affordable fine motor wall areas!
Using Chalkboard Paint On Unused Surfaces
Thinking outside the box to utilize all areas of your house, playroom, kid’s room is a great way to maximize the space that you have.
I snagged this car table for nothing and hated the way the top looked. It was damaged and old looking and I decided that I was going to give it a little face lift with my left over chalk paint. It took three coats and it turned out GREAT!
